Looking to bounce back from The Lone Ranger, the trailer for Gore Verbinski's new film A Cure for Wellness has dropped and will certainly pique your interest if you're a fan of the psychological-thriller genre.
The premise is simple enough and the trailer
doesn't do much to give away all the details: Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) stars a young executive who is sent to a
mysterious yet idyllic "wellness spa" in the middle of the Swiss Alps. It is
here where he learns that shenanigans are definitely happening and must figure
out how to escape or risk losing his sanity and his life.
Judging from the trailer, the film looks gorgeous and does a great job of bringing out the worst things about spas, like the isolation one can so easily feel when everyone else is fixated on themselves and how creepy monotonous group activities can look.
The use of a more somber version of The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" feels a little bit too on the nose and is taken over the top with dramatic horn interruptions. All things considered though, the trailer does its best to be thrilling; just remove the music and it would have done its job.
The film also stars Mia Goth, Jason Isaacs , and Adrian Schiller.
A Cure for Wellness opens in Philippine cinemas on February 15, 2017.
