3DS Cloud Strife Final Fantasy VII Nintendo Super Smash Bros Wii U

Nintendo announced that Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII fame will soon be available on Super Smash Bros on the Wii U.

The heavens parted and an angel holding a trumpet and a sword came down from the skies to announce the end of times - oh, wait. No. It isn't the apocalypse but I thought it was more likely to come first than Cloud coming to a Smash game.

To gamers out there, this is insanely awesome news. Fanboys, nerds and geeks (or whatever they want to be called these days) rejoice as one of their wildest daydreams come true. Just picture it - Cloud standing on screen, waiting to take on Link, Mario and Ryu on a suspended platform in an alternate dimension. Not good enough? Well, how about going on a bigger scale by going absolutely crazy fighting iconic characters like Pit, Ike, Donkey Kong, Megaman, Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Samus and (I can't believe I am writing this) freakin' Mewtwo! All in one match!

Cloud's inclusion was the result of a "Vote for the next Smash Brawl Character" ballot introduced back in April 2015, where people can vote online via Nintendo's website for any character they want to appear in the game. The Final Fantasy character is now the third character to be released resulting in these ballots. Following this announcement, there are now five downloadable characters for the SSB game; Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy and Ryu, with the latter two coming via the same ballots.

The announcement trailer showcased what's in store for the new DLC, including a new stage and a couple of classic Final Fantasy tracks. Gameplay footage showed off Cloud's move set for the game (which brought me to nostalgia heaven! Are you kidding me with that Finishing Touch? ), and I am loving the crispness of the animation. It all feels so natural. One look at how he moved in the game and you know that Cloud belongs with the rest of this game's stellar cast. Together with the awesome inclusion of classic summons like Bahamut and Ifreet , plus that goosebump inducing Omnislash Limit Break beatdown Cloud unleashed on Ike, the trailer effectively produced ooh and aahs from the giddy gamers who want the character now. From the regular attacks to the Cross Slashes and the Climhazzards, it looks like Nintendo put a lot of love in the development of one of videogame's most beloved characters. But, as with every other DLC character that Smash has released, you'll need to shell out some cash to play as the Buster Sword wielding spiky headed jerk we all love. No specific price and date has been announced yet, but other DLC characters went for $4.99, so it would be safe to assume that the character would probably cost as much. Yes, annoying as it may be to buy characters for games you've already bought, this is still a business after all. So expect to see an Amiibo announcement, (I'm not gonna lie, I'm freakin' buying it) together with other bundles because you can bet that Nintendo's gonna try to make as much out of Cloud as they can.

Nevertheless, I'm still buying the character. After all, would you pass up the opportunity to Omnislash Kirby's ass out of the Green Hill Zone?
