Fan Art Sundaes is a weekend section where we feature a spoonful of an artist's work based on some of your favorite geeky franchises! If you want your fan art to be featured, just email us at [email protected]!

It's almost the end of 2017 and we still have long lineup of talented local artists you should take notice of! Our first feature for November goes by the name of "Hika". A former book illustrator, this 26-year-old artist is now taking her time to finish personal projects.

Hika started venturing into art a long way back during her kindergarten days, when she would make Sailor Moon paper dolls. But she had only started to get serious with it in high school, where she began drawing her own comics and visual novels.

Her art style leans more towards the anime aesthetic since she reads a lot of manga, but she is still in the process of developing it further. She aspires for her work to convey emotions with simple lines and colors. Her main inspiration is manga artist Yumeka Sumomo (or Sahara Mizu), as Hika mentioned, "The way she writes and draws people is really amazing." Another artist she looks up to is Loika, whose environment artworks are simply breathtaking.

Anime such as My Hero Academia, Haikyuu!!, One Piece, and video games like Persona 5, plus TV shows like Scorpion are what Hika is currently into, so expect a few fan artworks relating to these shows. You can mostly find her active on Twitter, but she also manages her DeviantArt, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram.
