Chef Wars Mindcake Games

When you stop and think about it, there has never been a role-playing game which centers on food. Apart from chaotic co-op game Overcooked, titles which involve culinary activities are usually restaurant management types (Diner Dash and Cook, Serve, Delicious!) or those with heavy motion mechanics (Cooking Mama).

This is what the Philippines/Singapore-based developer Mindcake Games wanted to remedy with Chef Wars.

The game is described as a "food discovery RPG", where players wander around the world while looking for all kinds of ingredients to make new dishes. You can invent over 1000 recipes from the 200 ingredients available. This lets you discover different cuisines - from European to Filipino food.

These recipes are then showcased in Masterchef-like cooking battles, where you are judged by tough celebrity chefs. In order to become the most famous chef in the world, you'll have to travel to over 500 towns and win themed cooking competitions. You can even recruit 30 chefs for your 'party'.

While the game is not fully out yet, it has already garnered recognition in the International Mobile Gaming Awards and Casual Connect Asia.

Chef Wars launches as a free-to-play game on the App Store and Google Play Store this October 12. But if you cannot wait until then, the open beta is already available for download.
