Netflix is on a roll with its science fiction lineup lately. Earlier this year, we've seen the releases of The Cloverfield Paradox and Altered Carbon. Next to debut is a film from Alex Garland, the director behind the critically acclaimed sci-fi movie Ex Machina and the screenwriter of the underrated film Dredd. His latest science fiction project, Annihilation, is based on the first novel of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy. It features an all-star cast: Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Tuva Novotny.
Portman plays a biologist and former soldier who volunteers for an expedition to an environmental disaster zone in order to discover what happened to her husband, Kane. The area in question is experiencing a mysterious phenomenon that mutates the landscape and the creatures in it. Kane, who was part of the previous expedition, returned with serious injuries.
Annihilation is set to premiere on Netflix this March 12.
