The Apple App Store is already full of fun games to play; and with the Cupertino-based company shifting into high-gear in wild hopes to improve gaming experiences, things are starting to get even more exciting.

Some games have already been succesfully ported to mobile devices. Titles such as Street Fighter IV , Street Fighter X Tekken, and even indie games like Limbo, Downwell, Minecraft, and Bastion have already worked their way onto smaller screens. Without a doubt, more games are sure to follow.

But what links all these games together is that they are all best played with either a mouse and keyboard or with a gamepad controller. This is where Steelseries tries to break into the scene with their Nimbus gaming controller for the iOS.

On the surface it looks just like an ordinary Xbox controller. It even feels like holding one, too. It's comfortable and the gem buttons (guess what?) also feel like that of an Xbox's. The shoulder buttons lack that satisfying sensation when pressing them (unlike their console counterparts) and the analog sticks have no other function than to move your character around. While playing Street Fighter IV , you'll probably prefer utilizing the analog stick as a pseudo-fight stick as the D-Pad is a little too stiff.

Battery life is impressive and on a partial charge, was able to last up to eight hours of continued play as I attempted to speedrun Final Fantasy IX (I've never unlocked those weapons chests that require the player to reach it under 12 hours).

This controller works for the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. The companion app will help you get around things better but needs some tweaking, especially with newer devices. One slight issue I found is that many iOS games do not have controller support and won't always be mapped to the standard "Press A to jump" control scheme.

The Steelseries Nimbus is the best controller for mobile devices. It's the closest thing you'll ever get to the familiar controllers that we have loved for decades. If you need a controller to play games with while on the go, then this is one for you.
