Blizzard Mei Overwatch Rise and Shine

Since its launch, Overwatch has been releasing animated shorts to give further insights on the game's lore and characters. The last one was released last year at BlizzCon, when Blizzard introduced Sombra.

This latest short focuses on the origin of Mei, that sneaky troll who freezes you from behind and finishes you off with an icicle to the head. To give a bit of a background, Mei and a team of scientists went into cryogenic hibernation in Antarctica after a catastrophic storm hit their station and forced them to use up all their resources. 9 years pass and Mei wakes up to a world that was unlike the one she once knew.

Though it isn't as action-packed as "Dragons" or as tear-inducing as "The Last Bastion", the 10-minute "Rise and Shine" is still a testament to what Blizzard can do in terms of telling a story through animation.

This new animated short comes after the news of Overwatch's new map Junkertown, the home of Roadhog and Junkrat. While not considered as an animated short, a video called "Junkertown: The Plan", which features the two thieves, has also been released.
